The founder
Jason Quek
The first Singaporean to earn a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, and the man who opened the country's first BJJ academy. He is still the one taking the class.
Since 2006
The coach who adapts the move to you
He runs the class as a question and answer session. You bring the problem you are stuck on and the technique gets rebuilt around your body and the game you are trying to play, rather than the version that works for an average person.
It is slower to teach that way and it does not scale. It is also the reason people who walk in with a bad shoulder or short arms stop being told to just do it harder.
One of his black belts, ten years in, writes that every black belt in the room started as a white belt under Jason, and names all five. Two of the brown belts as well.

As Singapore's first and longest-running academy, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Singapore knows a thing or two about producing world class athletes for the global stage. It was, after all founded by black belt Jason Quek, who pioneered the scene here in 2006 during a time when it was still a relatively obscure martial art form here.
Singaporean BJJ black belt Jason Quek is arguably Singapore's greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pioneer. He launched Singapore's first and longest running Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in 2006 during a time when there was almost zero interest in the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The first Singaporean BJJ black belt, Jason Quek, has spent years mastering his craft. Launching Singapore's first BJJ school, Quek has produced many medalists and competitors from the school since its establishment in 2006. This has made BJJ Singapore a well recognized and one of the top schools in Singapore.
What students say about the coaching
In their own words

I have been training here for the past 1 past years and at the start i wasnt making much progress in getting better. But after changing my mindset and listening to the coach(Jason) and applying it i have been improving at a much faster rate. The training is different but very effective and im glad that i decided to continue training here.

Training here under Coach Jason for the last 2 and a half years has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. His approach to BJJ is incredibly technical, with a real emphasis on asking questions and paying attention to details. I came into this gym never having competed before, and thanks to Coach Jason’s guidance and support, I won my first gold medal at blue belt. He created a training environment where I felt prepared, confident, and pushed to bring out my best. What sets Coach Jason apart is his ability to tailor his coaching to each student and their individual strengths and weaknesses. The gym culture is welcoming, supportive, and built around continuous improvement. If you’re serious about learning BJJ in a way that’s both technical and practical, I can’t recommend this gym an

I have trained at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Singapore since day one, from white belt all the way to black belt — a 10-year journey under Jason Quek. Jason has shaped me far beyond becoming an elite BJJ athlete. He shaped my character, discipline, and how I perceive life both on and off the mats. His coaching is honest, demanding, and deeply principled. He builds character, discipline, and resilience. What stands out most is that every black belt in the gym (Clement, Jeong, Nic, Mervyn, Kenneth) and brown belt (Phin, Wei Qin) started as a white belt under Jason. I’ve personally witnessed how he has transformed countless people through BJJ — not just their skill, but their mindset and values. It’s a place for people who genuinely want to improve, be challenged, and grow through real BJJ. If you’re

Awesome vibes and really effective training. The owner/ coach (Jason) focuses on working smarter, not harder—which means faster progress without burning out. Sessions feel tailored, and the Q&A time really helps. Jason also ensures that the rolling environment is safe and respectful. No egos, just good people and solid results. Definately worth giving a shot!!

The atmosphere here is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making it a great place for both beginners and experienced practitioners. All the students are very supportive, encouraging each other to improve and grow together, which really helps build a strong sense of community. The overall vibe is positive and motivating, and it’s clear that everyone genuinely wants each other to succeed. The instructor is highly knowledgeable and takes the time to explain each technique in great detail, ensuring that students understand not just how to perform a move, but also why it works. He also goes over different variations and situations in which each technique can be applied, which really deepens your understanding of the art.

Great place to train. Jason’s attention to detail and problem solving skills really elevates the entire atmosphere within the gym and accelerates your growth in this sport! 10/10 recommend!
