You warm up with the group
Light movement to get the body ready. Nothing that requires prior fitness, and you can go at your own speed.
Start here
Almost everyone who walks in has never trained a martial art. The first class is built for that. Here is exactly what happens, so nothing about it is a surprise.
Your first class, step by step
Light movement to get the body ready. Nothing that requires prior fitness, and you can go at your own speed.
The coach shows a single technique in steps and explains why each step matters, rather than running through a long list of moves.
You practise slowly with someone who knows the drill. There is no sparring on your first day unless you ask for it.
The class ends with an open question session. Bring the thing that did not work and it gets rebuilt around you, which is not how most gyms run a beginner class.
What to bring
Tell the coach before class if you have any injury. The technique will be adapted around it.
The honest answers
Fitness is the result of training, not the requirement for it. You set your own pace in every drill and you can sit one out at any point.
You drill cooperatively at a speed you and your partner agree on. You tap to end a position long before it hurts, and the coach is watching.
They will be, and that is the point. Higher belts are the people who make a beginner safe, because they have the control to go slowly.
The academy trains adults across a wide age range and the technique gets adapted to your mobility rather than the other way round.
Book it
Message the academy and say you have never trained before. You will be told which class to come to and what to expect.
Or call 9457 9426. Beginner classes run Tuesday and Friday at 6pm and 7pm, and Sunday at 12pm.
Beginner questions
No. No experience is required and most people who walk in have never trained a martial art before. Classes welcome every level and instruction is adjusted to your background and learning pace.
You warm up with the group, learn a technique broken down step by step, drill it with a partner at your own pace, then finish with a question and answer session. Nothing is compulsory and you can sit out any drill. The trial class is $30.
Bring a clean set of athletic wear to change into, ideally a rash guard or fitted t-shirt and shorts without zips or pockets. Outside clothes are not allowed on the mats, which keeps the environment hygienic and prevents skin infections. You do not need a gi, every session here is no-gi.
The academy is at 44 North Canal Road, Level 3, Singapore 059300, a short walk from Clarke Quay MRT in the Singapore CBD. The Google Plus Code is 7RPW+VQ.
One class, $30, no membership and no pressure. Message us and we will tell you which class to come to.
